President Donald Trump is calling on Congress to pass legislation making Daylight Saving Time permanent, eliminating the twice-yearly clock change he called a “big inconvenience” and a “very costly event” for the government.
“The House and Senate should push hard for more Daylight at the end of a day,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, describing the idea as “very popular.” While lawmakers have introduced similar bills in the past, they’ve repeatedly stalled in Congress. Just last month, Trump said the issue seemed too evenly split among the public to gain momentum, calling it “a 50/50 issue.”

Supporters argue the change would give Americans more daylight in the evening, promoting outdoor activity. Opponents warn it could leave children commuting to school in darkness.
