President Donald Trump has formally asked Israeli President Isaac Herzog to issue a full pardon for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently on trial for fraud, bribery, and breach of trust.
In a letter released by Herzog’s office, Trump called Netanyahu a “formidable and decisive war-time Prime Minister” and praised his leadership in pursuing peace through the Abraham Accords.
Trump said the charges were “political” and “unjustified,” describing Netanyahu as a longtime ally in confronting Iran and promoting Middle East stability.

Herzog’s office responded that while he holds Trump “in high regard” for his support of Israel, pardon requests must follow official procedures. Netanyahu, who has pleaded not guilty, has not filed a formal appeal for clemency.
The Israeli leader’s corruption trial, which began during Trump’s first term, remains one of the most politically charged legal cases in Israel’s history.
