President Donald Trump said he is considering temporarily withdrawing Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general after opposition from two Republican senators delayed the confirmation process, according to the report.
The report said Trump praised Blanche as a strong candidate and suggested he could renominate him in the future if Republican Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis continue to block his confirmation. Until then, Trump said Blanche would remain serving as acting attorney general.
The report said the compensation fund was originally created to compensate individuals who claimed they were wrongfully targeted by the federal government. Some lawmakers expressed concern that it could benefit Trump allies or individuals convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot.
Blanche previously said the administration had abandoned the proposal, but senators are seeking additional written assurances.
