Trump’s Army Secretary Meets Russians In UAE As Peace Push Intensifies

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is in Abu Dhabi for direct talks with Russian officials as the Trump administration pushes aggressively for a Ukraine ceasefire.

U.S. officials confirmed Driscoll met Russian envoys for several hours Monday and will continue negotiations Tuesday.

The meetings come after high-level talks in Geneva involving Driscoll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian and European diplomats.

Washington is working from a revised version of a 28-point peace plan that has drawn criticism for requiring major concessions from Kyiv, including surrendering the entire Donetsk region and halting its NATO ambitions.

Ukrainian Ambassador Olga Stefanishyna said a related security document outlines U.S. “security assurances” similar to NATO’s Article 5.

Trump wants a deal by Thanksgiving, though U.S. officials say the deadline is flexible. One official warned Putin believes he will take Donetsk regardless, citing Russia’s advances near Pokrovsk.
