A federal judge has extended an order blocking President Donald Trump’s renovation plans for Washington’s East Potomac Golf Course, requiring 10 days’ written notice before any modifications.

The court intervened after workers reportedly removed at least 400 trees from the course over a holiday weekend without prior warning. Judge Reyes had previously ordered a temporary suspension of the work.

Reyes also rejected a request from the government department involved to recuse herself. The department had accused her of “egregious” conduct, while the judge said the case required weighing presidential assertions against sworn testimony from government employees.

Democracy Forward President and CEO Skye Perryman welcomed the ruling, saying it would protect East Potomac Park. Reyes also remarked, “I am not the Lorax. I do not speak for the trees.”

The dispute forms part of broader legal and public debate surrounding Trump’s plans to reshape historic sites in Washington, including a proposed White House ballroom and changes to the Kennedy Center.
