Trump's Venezuela Operation Spurs Security Debate In China

The U.S. operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is prompting Chinese analysts to call for stronger air defenses and tighter counter-intelligence measures, according to regional experts.

Observers said Venezuela’s Russian-made air defense systems failed to respond effectively to U.S. cyber, electronic, and surveillance tactics during the raid in Caracas.

Analysts described the systems as slow and poorly coordinated, allowing U.S. forces to blind radar networks and insert troops with minimal resistance.

China has long studied U.S. military campaigns, and analysts said the Venezuela operation reinforces the need to protect command systems, prevent infiltration, and maintain constant readiness.

Some noted that the mission relied on established U.S. tactics rather than new technology.

Others cautioned against overreading the event, arguing Venezuela is far weaker than major powers such as China. Still, Chinese experts said intelligence failures and internal weaknesses were decisive factors.

The episode has fueled debate in China over national strength, sovereignty, and the importance of defending state secrets.
