In a Sunday night statement on Truth Social, President Donald Trump has seemingly sent a message to the left-wing rioters that, despite his upcoming case, nothing will stop him from sending in the big guns if violent extremists continue to wreak havoc.
In case you missed it: Trump’s ability to deploy the California National Guard is currently working its way through the courts. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled that Trump’s order to deploy the Guard was illegal, claiming it exceeded Trump’s statutory authority. Breyer ordered the command of the Guard to return control to California, but his order did not extend to the U.S. Marines because they were not out on the streets yet.
Then, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily blocked Breyer’s order, which was set to take effect on Friday. The court said it would hold a hearing on the matter on Tuesday.
On the surface, Trump’s post seems to be a statement of support for ICE and other agencies to continue the mission of deporting criminal illegal immigrants. Trump said ICE officers “have shown incredible strength, determination, and courage as they facilitate a very important mission, the largest Mass Deportation Operation of Illegal Aliens in History,” adding that “ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”
However, the violence in Los Angeles continues, and his statement reflects his view on the Commander-in-Chief’s powers and responsibilities. Among the agencies he directed to continue carrying out the deportations and keep “domestic tranquility” was the Pentagon. This is important because once Trump federalized the California National Guard, it went under the command of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who ultimately serves under the Commander-in-Chief, Trump.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass warned that they will continue to protect illegal immigrants. Bass even hinted that violence will persist should federal authorities continue deportations despite the violence and destruction happening in California.
Newsom does not have the power to stop Trump in this matter; the U.S. Constitution and law are on the president’s side. Trump knows this, and thus his message is clear: Left-wing riots that destroy communities and put Americans at risk will be put down. The federal government will continue the mass deportations, especially in cities and states that claim to be sanctuaries for illegal immigrants.
If you are a left-wing rioter, pay close attention to Trump’s intent here. Criminals, both legal and illegal, will be sought out and dealt with swiftly. He will not allow lawlessness to take over American cities, and he will use every law enforcement agency at his disposal to stop it.
