A suicide bombing outside Islamabad’s High Court on Tuesday killed at least 12 people and injured 20 others, according to Pakistan’s Institute of Medical Sciences. The blast occurred in the parking lot of the city’s judicial complex, a high-security area surrounded by government offices.

Pakistani officials blamed militants linked to the Afghan Taliban and India, though no group has claimed responsibility.

President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the “terrorist act,” while Defense Minister Khawaja Asif called it a “wake-up call,” warning that Pakistan remains “in a state of war.”

The attack follows months of rising militant violence since the Afghan Taliban’s takeover in 2021 and comes just a day after militants targeted a cadet college in northwestern Pakistan.

Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have deteriorated sharply, with recent ceasefire talks collapsing in Istanbul last week amid disputes over cross-border militant activity.
