The U.K. government is considering strong action against Elon Musk’s X platform, including a possible nationwide ban, over the misuse of its Grok AI tool to generate sexualized images without consent.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said creating such images is unlawful and “disgraceful,” adding that all regulatory options remain open.

British officials confirmed regulators are reviewing whether X has violated the Online Safety Act, which requires platforms to prevent and remove illegal content, including non-consensual sexual images.

Grok recently restricted its image generation feature to paid users after admitting failures in its safeguards.

Critics said the move does not address the harm already caused and accused X of turning an illegal activity into a paid service.

Media regulator Ofcom said it has contacted X and xAI and may launch a formal investigation. Failure to comply could result in heavy fines or an effective ban.

U.S. lawmakers have also raised concerns, warning against censorship while urging stronger protections for victims.
