The U.N. General Assembly passed a U.S.-backed resolution demanding that Russia return all Ukrainian children it has illegally deported since 2014. The measure passed 91–12, with Russia, Belarus and Iran voting no, and 57 countries — including China, India and Brazil — abstaining.
Ukraine says more than 19,500 children have been forcibly taken to Russia, Belarus or Russian-occupied territories since the 2022 invasion. Fewer than 1,300 have been recovered. First Lady Olena Zelenska said 1,859 have been returned to date through various channels.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa told the U.N. the issue is about “humanity,” not politics, warning there can be no real peace without the unconditional return of all displaced children.
The resolution demands an end to deportations, adoptions, citizenship changes and indoctrination programs.
