President Donald Trump announced that Afghanistan, Bolivia, Myanmar, Colombia, and Venezuela have “failed demonstrably” to meet their counter-narcotics commitments over the past year, a designation that could jeopardize U.S. funding.
Trump singled out Colombia, saying coca cultivation and cocaine production have hit record highs under President Gustavo Petro. He accused Petro of pursuing failed compromises with narco-terrorist groups, while praising Colombian security forces for their “courage and skill.”

Trump added that Colombia’s political leadership bears sole responsibility and warned the designation could change only if the government takes aggressive action against coca and cocaine trafficking.

Petro criticized the U.S. move, arguing Colombia has sacrificed lives in the drug fight and accusing Washington of protecting its own consumption habits. Colombian officials said American aid cuts could reach $100 million in non-drug programs if Trump moves forward.
