The U.S. Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose said he has suspended all official contact with Wlodzimierz Czarzasty after what he called unprovoked insults against President Donald Trump.

The move followed Czarzasty’s rejection of efforts to support Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize bid and criticism of Trump’s past comments on NATO allies.

Rose said the remarks disrespected both the U.S. president and U.S. Polish relations. The dispute intensified when Rose publicly questioned whether American troops should remain in Poland, a key U.S. ally.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded that allies should show mutual respect. Rose countered that criticism should be directed at Czarzasty. Poland later said it stands by its position.

Despite the row, Trump has said the U.S. does not plan to withdraw troops from Poland, where American forces play a central role in NATO’s eastern defense posture.
