U.S. And Iran Move Toward Talks After Drone And Tanker Incidents

The United States and Iran are planning to hold talks in Oman on Friday, following a series of military confrontations in the region. The talks come after the U.S. military shot down an Iranian drone that approached the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea.

Hours later, Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats and a drone threatened to seize the U.S.-flagged tanker Stena Imperative in the Strait of Hormuz. A U.S. destroyer escorted the vessel, and the situation de-escalated.

Iran pushed to move talks from Turkey to Oman and is seeking direct discussions without intermediaries, a format long favored by President Donald Trump.

The U.S. and Iran do not have formal diplomatic relations, and Tehran remains designated a state sponsor of terrorism, according to CBS News.

The Trump administration has increased U.S. naval deployments near Iran, warning Tehran to halt nuclear activity and end violent crackdowns on protesters.
