A U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, according to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as tensions in the expanding conflict with Iran continue to escalate. The vessel, identified by Sri Lankan officials as the IRIS Dena, reportedly had about 180 personnel on board when the incident occurred, Reuters reported.
Sri Lanka quickly launched search and rescue operations after receiving a distress signal from the Iranian ship. The Sri Lankan navy and air force responded near the waters south of Galle.
