The United Kingdom has paused trade talks with Israel and imposed sanctions on West Bank settlers, condemning Israel’s latest military offensive in Gaza as “morally unjustifiable” and “wholly disproportionate.”
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said Tuesday the conflict is entering a “dark new phase,” citing an 11-week Israeli blockade that has pushed Gaza to the brink of famine. While supporting Israel’s right to self-defense after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, Lammy criticized Israeli plans to force Gazans into southern areas with little aid.
