Europe’s political leadership is facing a sharp voter backlash, with approval ratings collapsing across the continent. In Britain, Prime Minister Keir Starmer is fighting to stay in power after refusing calls to resign amid controversy tied to the Jeffrey Epstein files. His government has been shaken by revelations linking former senior appointee Peter Mandelson to Epstein.

The scandal has landed as Starmer’s public standing hits historic lows. Less than two years after Labour’s landslide win, he is now the most unpopular British prime minister on record, according to The Economist. Voters have grown frustrated with high prices and weak economic growth.

Polling suggests Britain is not an outlier. Morning Consult data shows French President Emmanuel Macron has just a 16 percent approval rating, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is also deeply unpopular.

Across Europe’s largest economies, far-right parties are surging as voters punish incumbents over inflation, immigration, and economic stagnation, according to Morning Consult and The Economist.
