Ukraine Says Satellite Restrictions Are Still Disrupting Military Drones

An adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky said there was no evidence that the restrictions had been lifted

Ukrainian officials say restrictions on Elon Musk’s Starshield satellite communications system remain in place, contradicting US President Donald Trump’s claim that Ukraine’s access had been restored.

According to CNN, Trump reportedly contacted Musk to address disruptions affecting Ukraine’s military operations. However, Ukrainian officials said Friday that high-speed military equipment continues to experience signal interruptions.

An adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky said there was no evidence that the restrictions had been lifted. A Ukrainian military officer told CNN that connection losses lasting 10 to 15 seconds were complicating coordination and affecting reconnaissance drones and other military assets.

The disruptions have reportedly hindered Ukraine’s ability to intercept Russian jet-powered drones. Kyiv is awaiting clarification from Washington, while Musk has said usage restrictions are determined by the US military and ultimately the president.

Meanwhile, Russia launched 176 attack drones overnight, according to Ukraine’s Air Force. Ukrainian officials reported nine civilian deaths and 76 injuries, while attacks on energy infrastructure left more than 500,000 people without electricity.
