Ukraine is growing increasingly concerned as the Trump administration tests a new peace framework that appears to align closely with Moscow’s demands. According to Ukrainian officials cited by the Kyiv Independent, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has been quietly crafting a proposal in direct contact with Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev.

Early briefings to Ukraine and European partners indicate the plan would require Kyiv to surrender territory, scale back its military, and give up certain weapons systems.
Ukrainian officials say Washington is shifting toward Russia’s position as Ukraine faces battlefield setbacks and a major corruption scandal. The Kremlin has reportedly hardened its demands, sensing Kyiv’s weakened leverage.

President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Turkey this week to restart negotiations, while President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to “stop the war,” saying he expected faster progress with Vladimir Putin.
Parallel military-led talks involving U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian officers are also being prepared. Kyiv continues to push for a ceasefire along current front lines, while Moscow insists on full control of Donetsk and Luhansk.
