More than 200,000 people have been displaced across Yemen as fighting intensifies, according to the UN’s International Organization for Migration. The agency said 201,217 people have been forced from their homes so far, up sharply from 76,000 recorded in mid-September.
The latest escalation is centered around Taiz, where government-aligned forces and the Houthis both report battlefield gains.
The humanitarian situation is also deteriorating. According to reporting from Taiz, artillery attacks are driving civilians from areas including al-Mawaset, Qadis and al-Silw.
Food and fuel supplies reaching Taiz have declined as fighting threatens the key road connecting the city with Aden. Rising prices are adding pressure on residents already affected by years of conflict and siege.
