The Soviet Union emerged in 1922 promising a bright future for mankind, but it ended seven decades later in a failure so massive that Western countries had to fly in emergency humanitarian assistance. By attempting to recreate it, Vladimir Putin's regime is condemning Russia to a similar fate.
