The United States delegation walked out of a United Nations meeting after France criticised Washington's position on a recent human rights vote, highlighting growing tensions between the two allies.
According to the report, the protest came during a Security Council session after France condemned the U.S. for voting against the reappointment of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.
The report said the General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to extend Turk's mandate for another four years, with the United States joining a small group of countries opposing the move.
France's ambassador, Jerome Bonnafont, did not respond publicly to the U.S. protest during the meeting. The diplomatic exchange underscored widening disagreements between Washington and its European allies over human rights and the role of the United Nations.
According to the report, the incident comes amid broader strains between the Trump administration and the United Nations, including debates over U.S. funding for the organisation, NATO commitments and the future of American military deployments in Europe.
