American motorists are facing record fuel prices on Election Day, with GasBuddy reporting a national average of $4.12 per gallon for gasoline and $6.28 for diesel.
The rising costs come amid major changes to US energy and transportation policies. The Trump administration and congressional Republicans have rolled back electric vehicle incentives and fuel-economy standards, while the $7,500 federal clean vehicle tax credit has expired.
The Strategic Petroleum Reserve has also fallen to 282.2 million barrels, its lowest level in 44 years, according to the figures cited.
Even a Democratic congressional victory may not restore Biden-era EV incentives, leaving voters confronting higher fuel costs and uncertainty over future energy policy.
