U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced his retirement, effective soon, after a controversial tenure marked by efforts to reform the Postal Service. DeJoy, appointed during the COVID-19 pandemic, implemented a 10-year plan aimed at stabilizing USPS finances. However, critics argue his changes, such as consolidating mail-processing centers, have slowed service, especially in rural areas.

His departure follows discussions about bringing the Postal Service under Commerce Department control. Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino will lead USPS until a new postmaster general is appointed. DeJoy expressed confidence in USPS’s future, stating the organization is well-positioned to continue its transformation and modernization efforts.
