Vice President J.D. Vance defended the Trump administration's decision to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father with protected status, to El Salvador. Despite a court error acknowledging that Abrego Garcia had legal protection against deportation, Vance argued that he was a convicted MS-13 gang member with no legal right to remain in the U.S.

Vance criticized those opposing the deportation, claiming the focus should be on American citizens impacted by gang violence. Critics, however, labeled Vance's remarks as “disgusting” and pointed out that the administration had previously admitted the deportation was a mistake. ICE confirmed the deportation was due to an administrative error, and Abrego Garcia’s family has called for his return to the U.S.
