Wall Street Tumbles As Inflation And War Hit At Once

The Dow sheds more than 900 points after a three-year-high inflation print collides with the Gulf escalation.

Stocks fell sharply Wednesday as a hot inflation reading landed alongside the renewed fighting in the Gulf. The Dow dropped 1.87 percent, or 953 points, to 49,918.78, the Nasdaq lost 1.98 percent to 25,169.50, and the S&P 500 slid 1.62 percent to 7,266.99, closing near the day's lows.

Industrials fell more than 3 percent and technology more than 2 percent as the selling broadened.

With oil rising again overnight and the Iran conflict deepening, futures point to more pressure before the Federal Reserve meets next week.
