The White House says it is “very optimistic” ahead of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday, the latest step in President Donald Trump’s push to end the nearly four-year war in Ukraine.

Putin is expected to meet Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner at 5 p.m. Moscow time, following intensive U.S.–Ukrainian talks in Florida that produced progress on a revised 19-point peace proposal.

Ukrainian officials signaled movement but warned that several “tough issues” remain, including potential territorial concessions.

Putin, meanwhile, has shown little willingness to compromise and continues to demand Ukrainian withdrawal from occupied regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held separate meetings in Europe to bolster allied support and said Kyiv remains committed to a “real peace” backed by firm security guarantees.

Tuesday’s meeting will be the sixth Witkoff-Putin session this year, underscoring Washington’s intensified diplomatic push.
