6-Year-Old Chinese Girl Sets Women’s Rubik’s Cube Speed Record

The Chengdu native recorded an average solving time of 4.52 seconds and was described by CCTV as the first female speedcuber to average below 4.5 seconds.

Six-year-old Chinese speedcuber Lian Yunzhi has twice broken the women’s Rubik’s Cube average world record at World Cube Association-certified competitions in Wuhan and Guangzhou, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The Chengdu native recorded an average solving time of 4.52 seconds and was described by CCTV as the first female speedcuber to average below 4.5 seconds.

Lian was introduced to cubing alongside other activities as a child, but her mother, Lin Yangxi, later encouraged her to focus more heavily on the puzzle, describing it as an activity that could develop multiple skills.

Lian has reportedly learned more than 1,300 solving algorithms through daily practice.

Her mother said solving the cube can help develop concentration, memory, logical thinking and spatial awareness, while also encouraging a balanced approach to competition.

Lian’s growing collection of trophies is displayed at home as she continues competing in speedcubing events.
