Heavy rains in Peru’s southern Arequipa region triggered a massive mudslide and rockslide, severing a vital stretch of the Southern Coastal Highway (Panamericana Sur).
The torrent of mud, boulders, and debris poured down from adjacent slopes, completely blocking the roadway and leaving hundreds of cargo trucks, long-distance buses, and passenger vehicles stranded for over 12 hours.
