Police in the Democratic Republic of the Congo fired tear gas and warning shots on Tuesday to disperse hundreds of anti-government demonstrators in Kinshasa and several other major cities.
Organized by the C64 opposition coalition, the marches aimed to block controversial constitutional amendments that critics warn could clear the path for President Félix Tshisekedi to seek a third term.
Though demonstrations initially began peacefully, street clashes erupted between opposition protesters and pro-government supporters, prompting swift security interventions and dozens of arrests nationwide.
