French emergency services have evacuated hundreds of residents and vacationers following a fierce wildfire that broke out in the dense pine forests of the Landes region.
Driven by dry conditions and shifting winds, the blaze spread rapidly through the timberland, threatening nearby communities and putting emergency services on high alert.
Local authorities ordered the swift evacuation of residential neighborhoods, campsites, and rural properties directly in the fire's path to prevent casualties. The fire ignited dangerously close to areas in southwestern France that had already been heavily scarred by major, destructive blazes earlier this summer.
