Two key leaders of India’s youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have been remanded to five days of judicial custody following a high-profile demonstration at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Co-conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were arrested after breaching security barricades at the site to wave national flags and demand the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities.

Police invoked charges including trespassing and obstructing public servants, citing violations of prohibitory orders. The incarcerations have triggered widespread outcry from opposition leaders and civil rights groups, signaling an escalating standoff between the government and youth activists over democratic norms.
