In a sweeping effort to conserve rapidly depleting reservoirs, Puerto Rican authorities have officially initiated a mandatory, rotating water rationing program across the island.
Driven by prolonged and severe drought conditions, the aggressive conservation plan forces tens of thousands of residents and local businesses to endure service shutoffs lasting up to 48 consecutive hours.
Officials warn that the strict scheduled outages are necessary to stabilize the island’s fragile water infrastructure until substantial rainfall can replenish critical supplies.
