At least 27 schoolchildren and a teacher were killed Thursday after the roof of a private school collapsed in northwestern Pakistan, leaving more than three dozen others injured, emergency officials said.
The disaster struck during morning classes at the Al-Khair Education Centre in Peshawar, trapping dozens of students beneath tons of concrete and heavy rubble.
First responders and local residents rushed to the scene to pull survivors from the debris, transporting the wounded to nearby hospitals, where several remain in critical condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse as rescue teams continue searching for those still missing.
