Yemen government forces and Iran-backed Houthi rebels clashed overnight into Thursday across residential neighborhoods in eastern Taiz, according to military sources.
The fierce fighting erupted just weeks after Houthi forces seized control of Mokha, located approximately 100 kilometers (60 miles) away.
The latest escalation in the contested city has raised immediate concerns for civilians trapped in the crossfire of the densely populated urban sectors.
This renewed violence threatens fragile regional stability as government troops attempt to hold strategic ground against the advancing insurgent forces in the country's southwest.
