What A Top Analyst Says China’s Wartime Buildup Means For U.S. Firepower

A leading U.S. defense expert is warning that America could exhaust key long-range missiles within a week if war with China erupts over Taiwan. Seth Jones, president of the Defense and Security Department at CSIS and a former Pentagon official, told Fox News Digital that China’s massive industrial buildup is exposing how slowly the U.S. defense base can produce weapons.

In his new book, The American Edge, Jones argues that Beijing is on a wartime footing, rapidly expanding its missile and shipbuilding capacity while the U.S. still faces slow procurement timelines and aging infrastructure.

He said China’s arsenal is designed to push U.S. forces far from Taiwan, making sustained combat impossible without far larger stockpiles.

Jones said the U.S. retains a strong undersea advantage but must accelerate production, expand shipyards and bring commercial AI leaders into military programs.

He warned that the Trump administration’s push for “wartime footing” is necessary but still not enough to match China’s pace.
