Bill Gates addressed his past relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during a staff meeting at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, saying he took responsibility for what he called a serious error in judgment, according to the foundation and reporting by The Wall Street Journal.
Gates reportedly apologized to employees, acknowledged spending time with Epstein after his 2008 conviction, and said he regretted the association.

He told staff he saw no illegal activity and denied any involvement with Epstein’s victims. Gates said he failed to properly vet Epstein, even after concerns were raised by his former wife, Melinda French Gates.
The renewed scrutiny follows the release of Justice Department files related to Epstein earlier this year.
Gates has not been accused of wrongdoing by Epstein’s victims. The foundation said Gates answered questions candidly and emphasized that no financial partnership with Epstein was ever pursued.
