Four people, including three children and a teacher, were killed in a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on October 15, according to authorities.
The suspected gunman, 16-year-old John Griffin Jr. III, was a former student at the school and was fatally shot by an armed bystander.
Police said Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter and father, heard gunfire while driving home, pursued the gunman into the school and intervened. Governor Tina Kotek praised his actions, saying he helped prevent further loss of life.
Five-year-old Rhoam Summer was among the victims identified. A seven-year-old child and another teacher remain hospitalized with critical injuries.
Police Chief Mike Krantz said the investigation would take time. Authorities have not announced charges against family members.
