What Happened To The Cargo Ship Struck In The Strait Of Hormuz

A Liberian-flagged cargo ship suffered severe damage after being struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to maritime security firms and reports cited by CBS News.

The vessel, MV Minoan Pioneer, was hit about 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, causing a complete electrical blackout, according to Greek maritime risk firm Marisks.

The report said the crew abandoned the vessel and one seafarer, identified as the third engineer, remains missing. Crew members were reportedly battling the fire while awaiting assistance.

Marisks said it remains unclear what type of projectile was involved or who was responsible. However, the immediate loss of power suggests the vessel may have sustained a direct hit rather than damage from a nearby explosion. According to maritime tracking data cited by CBS News, the ship had switched off its transponder on Sunday.
