Chinese military researchers are urging Beijing to integrate commercial space technology with military systems as global competition intensifies in orbit. Scholars linked to the Central Military Commission said China should develop dual-use satellite networks that combine civilian, commercial, and defense capabilities.

The push follows growing U.S. reliance on private space firms. The U.S. military has expanded its use of SpaceX technologies, including the Starlink system, for communications and battlefield coordination. Researchers warned that the line between civilian and military space use is rapidly fading.

In an article published by China’s National University of Defence Technology, authors said commercial imaging and radar satellites could support military reconnaissance and battlefield analysis. They argued China must plan early to secure strategic advantages.

The article also criticized Western space powers for widening technological gaps and warned that unchecked satellite growth could threaten global space safety and governance.
