China announced fresh sanctions and tighter export controls targeting the United States, describing the measures as retaliation for recent actions taken by the Trump administration against Chinese companies, reported by CNN.
Beijing's Commerce Ministry said several American firms were added to its countermeasures list, preventing Chinese individuals and businesses from cooperating with them.
According to the ministry, the move responds to Washington's recent ban on imports from dozens of Chinese companies over alleged human rights abuses, restrictions on Chinese-made robots and power converters, and additional sanctions on Chinese firms.
The report said the latest escalation comes just weeks before an expected summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump.
Despite the retaliatory measures, both governments have continued diplomatic engagement, including recent virtual trade talks, as they seek to preserve stable bilateral relations amid growing technology and trade tensions.
