The Trump administration has launched a major federal law enforcement surge in Memphis, Tennessee, as part of a broader effort to combat violent crime in Democrat-run cities.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed Tuesday that the operation is underway, reporting nine arrests and the seizure of two illegal firearms. More than 200 officers have been deputized, and a Joint Operations Center is operational.

President Trump has said the Memphis task force will mirror successful efforts in Washington, D.C., with a “large-scale saturation” of troubled neighborhoods. He emphasized strict enforcement of public-safety laws to restore order.

Memphis, while seeing reductions in some crime categories this year, continues to struggle with homicides and carjackings.

City leaders, including Democratic Mayor Paul Young, have voiced cautious support, noting federal agents will work alongside local police. Critics, however, argue resources would be better spent on education and community programs.
