Regional mediators are making a final push for a 45-day ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as President Donald Trump’s deadline for a deal approaches, reported by Axios, citing multiple officials.
According to the report, negotiations are ongoing but chances of an agreement within 48 hours remain slim.
The proposed plan includes a temporary ceasefire followed by talks aimed at ending the war permanently. Mediators from Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey are facilitating discussions, focusing on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and addressing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.

The report said Trump has extended his deadline and warned of large-scale strikes on Iranian infrastructure if no deal is reached. Officials confirmed that contingency plans for expanded military action are ready.
Iran has shown little willingness to compromise, maintaining a hardline stance on key issues. According to the report, mediators fear that failure to secure a deal could trigger severe retaliation and escalate the conflict across the Gulf region.
