Why Did Trump Call Iran’s Ceasefire Proposal As 'Insufficient'

U.S. President Donald Trump

The U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that his Tuesday deadline for Iran to reach a deal is final, warning of major strikes if Tehran does not comply, according to Reuters.

Speaking at a White House event, Trump described Iran’s latest proposal as “significant” but insufficient to end the conflict.

The report said U.S. officials are engaged in indirect negotiations with Iran through Pakistan, seeking commitments on curbing nuclear ambitions and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump suggested the talks were conducted in good faith but stressed that Iran must meet key conditions quickly.

Iran, however, has rejected a temporary ceasefire, insisting on a permanent end to the war, according to earlier statements cited in the report.

Trump also floated the idea of U.S. control over Iran’s oil resources, though he acknowledged domestic opposition.

Separately, Trump confirmed that two U.S. airmen rescued after their jet was downed in Iran are recovering from injuries.
