The Trump administration is weighing a major military escalation in the Middle East, with plans to deploy at least 10,000 additional combat troops, according to a senior U.S. defense official.

The move, first reported by The Wall Street Journal and confirmed by Axios, signals that preparations for a possible ground operation in Iran are being actively considered.

According to officials, a decision could come as early as next week. The reinforcements would include new combat units, alongside ongoing deployments of Marine expeditionary forces and elements of the 82nd Airborne Division.

The report said the Pentagon is also developing options for a decisive strike, including a large-scale bombing campaign. President Donald Trump has not approved any final plan but is said to be ready to escalate if diplomatic efforts with Iran fail.

Talks remain uncertain, with Iranian officials reportedly wary of U.S. intentions and yet to commit to high-level negotiations.
