President Donald Trump warned that the United States will hold Iran directly responsible for any future Houthi attacks after the Tehran-backed group claimed it targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, according to the report.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said Iran would face severe military consequences if the Houthis launched further attacks, describing the group as an Iranian proxy.
The warning followed Houthi claims that drones and missiles struck the Saudi tankers Encelia and Layla. Saudi authorities confirmed the Encelia caught fire but said all crew members were safe.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran continues to reject a viable agreement and warned the pressure campaign would intensify.
The report said tensions pushed Brent crude close to $100 per barrel as commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz faced growing security concerns.
