Why Trump Withdrew U.S. From Dozens Of International Groups

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, including several tied to the United Nations and global climate policy.

The White House said the move follows a broad review of U.S. funding and participation in multinational bodies.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the targeted organizations were found to be mismanaged, wasteful, or inconsistent with U.S. sovereignty and national interests.

Many focus on climate change, labor, migration, and social policy. The decision includes withdrawal from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the treaty underpinning the Paris climate agreement.

The administration said it will instead prioritize selective engagement where U.S. influence competes with China in strategic forums.

Critics warn the withdrawals weaken U.S. leadership, while supporters argue the move protects taxpayers and restores American independence in foreign policy.
