Gloria Steinem, a prominent figure in the women’s liberation movement and co-founder of Ms. Magazine, has died at age 92, according to CBS News. Her foundation said she died peacefully at her New York City home surrounded by loved ones. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Steinem became a leading voice for women’s rights during the second half of the 20th century. As a journalist and activist, she challenged the idea that issues affecting women should remain outside broader political and social debates.

According to CBS News, Ms. Magazine became an influential platform for women’s perspectives on equality, representation and social justice. Steinem also advocated for voting rights, female political candidates, economic opportunity and protections against domestic violence.

Her activism extended beyond journalism and politics. The Ms. Foundation for Women helped launch Take Our Daughters to Work Day, which grew into an international initiative addressing workplace opportunities and gender stereotypes.
