Zelensky Faces Rising U.S. Pressure As Washington Seeks Swift Peace Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

The United States is pressuring Ukraine to accept the framework of a U.S.-brokered peace deal by threatening to scale back intelligence sharing and weapons supplies, Reuters reported.

Two sources familiar with the talks said Kyiv is facing its toughest pressure yet from Washington, which wants Ukraine to sign the agreement by next Thursday.

According to the report, the 28-point proposal incorporates several major Russian demands. It would require Ukraine to surrender additional territory, reduce the size of its military, and abandon its bid to join NATO. One source said the U.S. is determined to “stop the war” even if Kyiv must “pay the price.”

Senior U.S. military officials met President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Thursday to push the process forward.

American officials described the talks as productive and emphasized the need for an “aggressive timeline” to finalize the deal.
