Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is preparing to impose personal sanctions on businessman Oleksandr Tsukerman and producer Timur Mindich over a $100 million corruption scandal linked to the state-owned nuclear company Energoatom, according to the Kyiv Independent.
There must be maximum integrity in the energy sector, in absolutely all processes. I support – and the Prime Minister supports – every investigation carried out by law enforcement and anti-corruption officials. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) charged eight individuals with bribery, abuse of office, and money laundering, alleging that Mindich—co-owner of Zelensky’s former entertainment firm Kvartal 95—masterminded the scheme.
Investigators say Tsukerman ran a “back office” that laundered millions through fake contracts and offshore accounts. Both men reportedly fled Ukraine before charges were filed.
Zelensky has demanded the resignations of Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, who were also implicated.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed the Cabinet had approved sanctions pending National Security Council approval.
The scandal, one of Ukraine’s largest since Russia’s invasion, has intensified pressure on Zelensky’s government to prove its anti-corruption resolve amid ongoing war fatigue and Western scrutiny.
