Meta Platforms has acquired Manus, a China-founded artificial intelligence agent start-up now based in Singapore, in a deal reportedly worth billions of dollars, according to Chinese media cited by LatePost.

The companies did not disclose the purchase price. Meta said the deal would help bring Manus’ AI agent technology to billions of users across its platforms.

Manus will continue operating from Singapore, where it relocated earlier this year after previously being based in China.

The acquisition comes just nine months after Manus’ public launch and highlights China’s growing competitiveness in AI despite U.S. restrictions on advanced chips and funding.

Meta has been reshaping its AI strategy as it works to keep pace with rivals.

Manus said it has processed more than 147 trillion tokens, reached $100 million in annual recurring revenue, and attracted millions of users.

Founder Xiao Hong will join Meta as a vice president. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has described agentic AI as a key step toward artificial general intelligence.
